Online in the Studio

It’s a pretty simple setup.

I’ve got a card table that folds up in 5 seconds and slides behind the piano; three or four lights that can be set up in a jiffy; a mic; and a pair of open-back headphones.

Did I mention a sense-of-humor?

Very necessary since anything can (and does) happen while online: connections freezing, batteries dying, sound frying.

But it works.

The fun part from a tech point of view?

Working with platforms that allow me to accompany students in real time: Cleanfeed, Restream, and FarPlay. Game changers, they are bringing the future into the present, one where we have greater connection to each other.

Making music together while 300 miles apart?

It’s possible.

I will be online for 4 hours today; two lessons followed by a two hour Awakened Ear Workshop. The 12 participants will be spread across the globe, this particular workshop having a coterie of Tomatis practitioners from England and Australia.

It’s kinda wild actually.

Wonderful too.

Only connect! That was the whole of her sermon. Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer.
